The Larkstone Review: We have owned a pair of these for a couple years now, and we love them enough to bring them into the store!

These are fun, easy to use and compact binoculars.  We keep one in our everyday backpack all the time, that way we are never caught off guard when that random Bald Eagle flies over the city.  They also fit easily in your jacket pocket for those quick dog hikes through county park when you don't want to get slowed down with the serious birding binoculars, but you still want to get eyes on those cute woodpeckers up in the canopy.  They are also great for scoping out the architectural details of the city, we have a few secret gargoyles around town!
Also perfect for sporting/concert/theater events!
Surfers love these for scouting the waves.

If you are getting into birdwatching with any real enthusiasm, you'll want a bigger pair sooner than later.  In the "8x25" spec, 8 = the magnification, and 25 = the size of the front glass element.  The larger that front element, the more light comes in, which makes all the difference as the sun starts to set, which is when the best bird watching tends to happen. The larger front element also makes for a larger field of view, which makes spotting easier. The Field Issue or the Pro Issue is a better choice for birdwatching because of this, but they are definitely not as compact and easy to carry as these are.

An alternative way to keep it super affordable and compact but still get a larger front element is the Zoom Tube.
